Our 3 Day Guide Class consists of three days 8 AM - 4 PM each day.

This outline is not the entire class but it will give you a rough idea of what is covered, there is actually a lot more that's covered each day than is listed in these outlines.

 

Day one Outline: 8-4 PM  1/2 hour lunch break 

We go over the application process , State requirements, how and where to have your background and fingerprinting done.

We go over the process of running a guiding business in Maine and business ethics.

We go over the 100 question written exam process.

We go over the necessary law books that you will need to study with for each classification that you are attempting to achieve a Guide license in.

We go over the State requirements needed for each classification, Hunting, Fishing, Recreational & Tidewater guide licenses. 

We go over insurance, medical request forms for clients, client liability waiver, client care list and your lodging do's and don'ts and a cover letter to clients.

We go over general hunting, fishing, boating, ATV, snowmobile laws and terms.

We go over traps and trapping laws.

We go over animal, fish, snakes, turtles, wildflower, invasive species etc. etc.

We go over canoeing terms, parts of a canoe, canoe strokes, water rescue, boating knots, fishing knots, PFD's , white water river navigation , and more.

 

Day Two Outline: 8-4 PM  1/2 hour lunch break 

Movie on Map & Compass navigation, GPS coordinates, and outdoor food prep over a fire.

Outdoor, using a compass for navigation and orienteering, learn to pace, using the chain system

Learning how to do the necessary steps for the Map & Compass portion of the State exam.  (Map & Compass is 3/4's of this days time.)

Learning how to use latitude and longitude,  how to get coordinates from a map and how to find a given coordinate on a map.

 

Day Three Outline: 8-4 PM  1/2 hour lunch break 

Being Lost overnight and necessary items the guide needs and the guide provides each client.

The Lost Person Scenario and Catastrophic Event Scenario explained, grid searching, communications, keeping clients safe.

The Will Call and Float Plan

Clouds, more boating, trip planning, food preparation, cooler packing and packing list for trips .
