2026 Apprenticeship Program For New Hunting Guides
This program is available to one person per year.
Criteria
Bear Hunting Guide Apprenticeship, that includes a (5) day over bait hunt. On Job Training. (SEE Our MaineGuidedHunts.com Website for more info on our guide operation for bear hunts.)
1.) Should take our 3 day Guide School, but not a deal breaker. Hours of this apprenticeship equal 50 hours (5 Days Baiting and tear down) about 72 hours assisting guide with clients. Surpassing state testing requirements for field experience.
2.) Must have their own transportation to and from camp and for the 4 days pre-baiting, 1 day after tear down, meet up with Steve at a Turnpike Park and Ride. (We use our vehicle daily.)
3.) Be available for a minimum of 4 full days of getting sites ready about 10 hours a day or more or less, trail maintenance, stand placement, baiting. loading, unloading, etc. of pre-baiting season actual dates of baiting, to be discussed. (Aug 1 - Aug 30th)
5.) You will need to be in camp Aug 30 - Sept 12. With Sept 13th tear down day being your last day.
5a.) You will also get to actually hunt a bait that you have assisted in baiting, to experience a bear hunt for one week of these two weeks. (Value $1500)
6.) Your cost to us for this training program is $1500 (The same price of a bear hunt with Steve!)
7.) My apprentice helpers use their own local lodging if they prefer or they can use the host lodging. (Cost of lodging is $40 a day for about 14 days = $560 and your personal food cost daily.) You would be bunking in the Guide House upstairs loft area, it has beds, linens, a full kitchen, hot showers, indoor plumbing. There's a shared fridge with top freezer, outdoor grille, indoor stove, etc. Food will be discussed when we are pre-baiting together. Transportation will also be discussed during your hunting of your bear hunting days.
8.) Must be focused at all times on ethical behavior, respect clients, be safe, listen to direction from licensed guides, abide by all rules at camp. Always ask Guide if ever unsure!
9.) Over 18 years old and retired people are welcome to apply as well.
